SCIENTISTS FROM LITUANIAN INSTITUTE OF ANIMAL SCIENCE VISITED FINS

Two doctors – Virginijus Uchockis, Saulius Bliznikas and young researcher – Raimundas Matulaitis from Institute of Animal Science of LVA had opportunity to visit Institute for Food Technology (FINS) in Novi Sad. Doctors were in two‑weeks, young researcher - four‑weeks scientific visit and training at FINS (from June 1th until June 14th and 30th 2010). The aim of this visit was to improve research skills and to learn new physical and chemical methods in analysis of food and feed. We brought 6 different samples of complete feeds, and determined physical (pellets durability, bulk density, granulation and pellets hardness) and chemical properties (quantity of minerals and presence of pesticides).

Also we had possibility to participate in testing of local feed materials at feed processing pilot plant in FINS (conditioning and determination of feed moisture, mixing, granulation, expansion and extrusion). We learn how to use a new method for determining quality assurance of feed mixing process (colored uniformly sized stainless steel particles – microtracers incorporation in mixer and after that ensuing them determination process in mixed products).

We visited two feed producers – “Sto posto” and “Nutricia”, where we have a look at al steps of feed producing process. Also we have been in Scientific Veterinary Institute Novi Sad, where we get information about specifics of them work.
